What Is New Jersey Botox?
Botox® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles to improve the appearance of moderate-to-severe lines of the upper face. Botox® is a minimally invasive, injectable neuromodulator treatment that aims to diminish the signs of aging to create a smooth, refreshed, and youthful look. Injectable neuromodulators work by interrupting nerve signals to reduce muscle movements in strategically targeted areas where dynamic wrinkles form. With real, noticeable results within days, and with no surgery or recovery time, this treatment has been chosen by millions of individuals (both men and women) and their medical providers as their rejuvenation procedure of choice.
For patients experiencing moderate to severe wrinkles, FDA-approved Botox® is a quick and effective skin rejuvenation treatment that temporarily reduces the signs of aging for a refreshed appearance. Younger patients in their 20s to early 30s are turning to Botox® to retain their youthful appearance before dynamic lines set in.
Dynamic wrinkles form in areas of repetitive facial expressions, meaning even young adults can develop this type of wrinkle, creating a tired, angry, or older-looking appearance. As one of the earliest signs of facial aging, dynamic wrinkles are typically only visible during facial movements; however, dynamic wrinkles can become more pronounced and visible even without movement.
Botox® treatments typically take 15 to 30 minutes with full results visible within two weeks. They temporarily relax specific muscles to prevent their contraction, resulting in an improved cosmetic appearance that lasts 3-4 months for most people. It takes approximately 4-5 days to start seeing the results.
What Can Montclair, NJ Botox Treat?
There are a number of other areas on the face and body where Botox® can safely be injected. However, these other areas are considered “off-label”. Botox® also plays a significant role in non-surgical facelifts when partnered with dermal fillers for minimally invasive facial rejuvenation. We also offer Jeauvau®, another FDA-approved neuromodulation. Without limiting movement in untreated areas, Botox® helps reduce the appearance of:
- Eye area—crow’s feet
- Glabellar lines—frown lines, or the 11s
- Forehead lines
- Neck bands
- Lip area
- Medical conditions, like excessive sweating
Botox Lip Flip
Without adding unnecessary volume to the lips, the Lip Flip is a non-surgical lip enhancement treatment that involves injecting Botox® above the upper lip and the corners of the mouth. Botox® relaxes the lip muscles, allowing the lips to curl outward. The Lip Flip creates plumper-looking lips with a more defined shape without adding volume.
Therapeutic Botox®
In addition to improving the appearance of certain types of facial lines, Botox® and other neuromodulators are FDA approved to treat a variety of other medical conditions including migraine headaches, persistent muscle spasm, stiffness in the neck and arms, certain types of eye muscle problems, and to treat the symptoms of severe underarm sweating. Unlike cosmetic Botox®, therapeutic Botox is FDA approved to relieve certain medical conditions and can in some cases even be covered by insurance.
Off-Label Use of Botox®
When injectable products are approved to be used in the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lists specific uses for those products. Most injectable products are “approved” to treat specific areas of the face and lists these approved treatment areas on the product label. However, the principle effects of the product may be the same if used elsewhere on the face. When a product is used on an area of the face not specifically listed on the FDA package insert label, the use of the product is considered “off-label.” For example, Botox® may only be FDA-approved to treat the wrinkles in the glabella area (“elevens”), resulting in a elimination or softening of those wrinkle and improved facial appearance. However, injection of this same material around the eyes may achieve the same cosmetic effect, but has not been officially approved by the FDA for that purpose. It is acceptable for physicians to use products in an off-label manner in the United States, but you need to be informed and aware that the products are being used in this way.

Preparing for Your NJ Botox Treatment
It is essential to be in good physical and mental health before any plastic surgery procedure, whether surgical or non-surgical. While each Botox® procedure will be unique and tailored to your needs, here is some general information to help you prepare.
- Be selective when choosing your Botox® injector as not all injectors are experienced or trained equally. Fellowship trained, Dr. Szpalski has received extensive education in anatomy.
- If you currently smoke, vape, or use nicotine products, you should quit. As smoking is detrimental to your health, especially during recovery from any plastic surgery procedure, patients should stop smoking at least one week before and after Botox® treatments. Smoking, vaping, or using any nicotine product can greatly impact the longevity of your Botox® results. Dr. Szpalski orders a nicotine test for all patients who smoke to help avoid complications caused by smoking or the use of nicotine products.
- For a week prior to and after your Botox® procedure, refrain from taking medications, vitamins, and supplements that are not medically necessary as they may increase bleeding or bruising risks. Supplements to avoid include: fish oils, ginseng, vitamin E, garlic, and gingko biloba.
- Avoid alcohol or caffeine for about a week, as they can cause additional bleeding and bruising.
- Come to your appointment with clean, moisturized skin.

How Soon Will I See My Glen Ridge Botox Results?
After Botox® treatment, many patients begin seeing visible improvements to their features within two to five days. However, the muscles will continue to relax for the next two weeks after treatment. As such, the skin in the treated area will continue to look smoother and more refreshed to achieve your final results.
You should begin to see your Botox® results within two to five days. On average, Botox® results last approximately three to five months; however, the longevity of your unique results depends on several factors, including placement and your metabolic response. Each patient will experience varied results based on optimal placement and unique response.
Possible temporary side effects associated with the injection include localized pain, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, bleeding or bruising. Most people will notice that Botox® and Jeuveau® start to work in about a week, while Dysport® tends to produce results even sooner (two to three days on average). We recommend that all our patients return to our office two weeks after their first treatment for a “perfection check” to ensure you are pleased with the results and everything looks “perfect”! The results will continue to improve over the next 30 days and should last between 3-4 months for most people (results may vary).
